- Spend morning running around madly dealing with getting a new invoice for something Title related and getting it over to the office. Yay, done.

- Got into conversation at lunch, discovered another British folk rock fan, and also showed him how to solve one of his current problems through JSTOR

- Decided to ditch a bunch of our biographical dictionaries, and have requested a trial of one of Gale's products (the Biography Resource Center) online as a suitable replacement. (Our reference biography sets all date from the late 80s or early 90s, and are fairly white-male centered, so, really, new stuff nice.)

- Weeded a whole bunch of stuff out of the early 900s because we're still having a space crunch. Sent email to our Latin teachers and French teachers going "Let me buy you books on your subjects that were published this century!" (Most of the stuff weeded - *4* shelves of it - are late 80s and early 90s.

One notable title:

"Berlin is a city of [some number of million I forget right now.] Divided through the center by a 4.5 meter wall...."

Yeah. This is why we weed. Really.

- wrote a maintainance request saying "When I walk by part of my shelving, I hear fast flowing water in the wall. Just thought you might like to know." (It appears to be flowing and not coming through the wall in any way I can discern, but yeah. Not a sound you expect on an interior wall.)

I go back now to weeding and moving the 920s around appropriately.

While at Worldcon, I saw a piece of the Berlin Wall incongruously placed in a light, cheery atrium in the Centre de Commerce Mondial.

I was rather surprised to realize as I read the info plaque that I am just past the point where more of my life has been lived since the Wall came down than was lived before it came down. (I haven't calculated it to the day or anything, but it would have happened a few months ago.)

The Berlin Wall came down during my senior year of college, and the Challenger exploded during my senior year of high school. It was very odd realizing at Readercon that someone born when I was old enough to drink is now old enough to vote (and of course the same is true reversing drink/vote).

As an Army brat, my big memory of late 1989 was the invasion of Panama since my father had been transferred to SOUTHCOM less than two weeks beforehand; that was after he'd been at a conference at the Presidio, and standing at the airline counter at SFO when the Loma Prieta quake hit. We were wondering what might happen to Boston when he came for my graduation....

I had a similar problem once. This is how we discovered there was a water leak in the upstairs apartment which was pooling in the downstairs apartment. Definitely better to mention it.
