(It is, in fact, the fifteenth day of classes.)
It is also, as many of my friends have noted, my birthday. I'm 34 today, and expect to be writing some commentary on that (and where I hope to go in the future, and what I think about the past year) as part of my plans for tonight. This is not that post.
(However, happy birthday to
matociquala,
doclonghair, and Estara's son, with whom (among others), I share a natal day. It is a very good day to share, in my opinion.)
5am: Get up, early, so I can put round one of the decadent brownies in the oven before work. (It's a 2 day/3 stage process: I plan to ice tonight, and probably ganache tomorrow so I can bring them in on Thursday)
Do some of my morning devotional work, pet the cat, and delight in the more-tidy than it's been in a month house, thanks to help from
aedifica last night. Put on clothing, and more jewelry than usual, as I'm doing a presentation today. (Blue square neck shirt, black skirt, and "Elf's Dozen" (which is blue square cut opals in a spare and spaced out hedgehog design) and a pair of earrings in the Song design with pale blue labridorite on the bottom spokes, both by the fabulous
elisem)
6:50am: Leave for work.
7:05am: Arrive at work, and get out of the car just after my minion, who hands me a chocolate cupcake by way of birthday present, for lo, she has figured out my chocolate adoration. Get the library opened up.
7:30am to just before 9: Work on presentation one of my immediate co-workers and I are doing to the entire school.
9am: Go down to assembly and set up.
9:20 to 9:45: Presentation. Co-worker gets laughs at the right places. So do I. No one appears to fall asleep, and I've gotten several "Great presentation" comments, especially about a few specific pieces.
Back up to the library, wherein I answer questions, including a request to come talk about online research to 9th graders on Thursday (yay! I love those!), a surprise visit by a class doing research on various topics relating to race and class in the last 100 years of US history.
11:20: I go down to lunch.
11:50: Come back up, and work on an online resource guide for that race and class project, while also answering other emails and various other questions.
1:20: Wander downstairs, say hi to a retired faculty member I'm fond of, and have about 4 conversations on the way about various bits and details: use of our space by the student of color support group last night, and then a territorial dispute between our security department and the maintenance staff over installation of hand sanitiser stations.
(They all want to give us one, and are arguing over whose role it is. I am staying out of the way and smoothing over, because lo, I am not stupid and do not want our maintenance staff annoyed at me, for they are the bringers of large boxes of copy paper and other useful things. I am not generally particularly germ phobic, but in a library that most of the school circulates through at some point during most days, and with H1N1 firmly wandering through the school, there's a point when such things make sense.)
1:45: Migrate into the back room to eat my cupcake (mmmmmmmm! chocolate with ganache and a really lovely vanilla creme filling) and decompress my brain a little with this post before going and diving into paperwork. I plan to leave around 3:30, go home, and do the ritual work for the equinox and for my birthday that I want to do today. (Specifically, leaving a little early because the actual equinox is at 4:18 local time, and I'd like to be home starting the work of the evening before then.)
