- Wine last night before bed seems to have done the trick in breaking the sequence of 'this is an anxiety dream, I'm sure, but I can't quite figure out what I'm anxious about' sleep that I've had the last few nights. (And for the curious, it was wine rather than beer for a very specific reason: hops, the common clarifier in most beers, is a depressant that sometimes does wonky things with particular kinds of anxiety patterns, and it seemed more sensible to avoid it.)

(My anxiety dreams are weird: I only really started having them last winter, around the job transition stuff, but I mostly have the sense that my subconscious doesn't really know what to do with them. So I get this dream of this sort of ambient feeling of stuff not being right, but nothing to actually hang it on. Mostly, I go "Anxiety dream, yes, subconscious, you're processing. Can't you find something more amusing to do it with?" and roll over and ignore it. Because, really, they're not very competent anxiety dreams.)

- I got to work at 7am this morning. The first time I had a chance to catch my breath and take a momentary break from fielding questions was at 2:15. Yeah. Like that. Tomorrow will be worse. (My teacher talk at 7:30, homeroom, newspaper, and then more advisory time later in the day.)

- On the third hand, 9th graders are the cutest and most endearing creatures on the face of the planet. For about a week, anyway. They're all currently in the "Help! Don't know what I'm doing, and I'm sure this will be on my permanent record, and I haven't finished my homework, and ...!" stage, so one spends a lot of time reassuring them that it is not the end of the world.

- And the newspaper editors are all over being energetic and engaged and inspired to do nifty things. Which is cool. I'm looking forward to them.

- Between myself and the minion, we had at least 55 points of contact with people with questions today. 27 were password changes. (Yes, we're keeping stats, can you tell?)

- One of them, an actual research question, I did not get to, because see extreme busyness. (If anyone has suggestions for good books dealing with Koch curves, Koch snowflakes, fractal dimension definitions and scale factor definitions, I would be most interested: it's for a science fair project, and my 10th grader is trying to find good resources on same. We have excellent ILL access, so it's more about figuring out the best works on same than giving him answers. I'll be spending time tonight getting myself up to speed on the topics enough to do meaningful searches.)

- Minion and I both firmly went home at 4. Because, really. Done and tired now.
