I think people do not realise how physical librarianship can be at some points.

Today, I moved some books and did some paperwork (though not as much as I should have...) I also moved a whole lot of furniture (6 large rectangular tables, 4 round ones, and a bunch of chairs) by myself, and 3 more and a heavy steel desk with the help of one of my co-workers (who was not wanting to do any of the work he had to do, either.)

We also refinished the walnut desk that I've appropriated since we demolished the oversized standing height circulation desk. It's been cleaned and oiled, and on Monday, we'll wax.

The library looks like a real library. I think I'm going to end up coming in on Sunday for a couple of hours to make more headway on the moving I didn't manage to finish today, and to tidy, so that when people come in on Tuesday (we've got meetings elsewhere on Monday most of the day), it'll be stunningly gorgeous. (I've got a back-to-school barbecue for work at 6, and work is between home and that location, so this is less painful than it sounds.)

(I will also take photos when we get to 'look, we are gorgeous', have no fear. But my library? It is very very very shiny and pretty and organically aligned now.)

heh.

People really do not.

You should have seen the face of the ergonomic evaluator as my coworkers and I talked him through one of our usual days.

Appalled comes vaguely close.
