Go into work. Arrive around 7:10. Say hi to people. Head upstairs to begin making sense of one's office. Desperately try to ignore email, but Title funding stuff has exploded. (Argh)

NewMinion arrives. She and I sit down and spend about an hour talking about all the stuff that doesn't come up in interviews, but that does need to be discussed - general schedule, reporting sick days, who's who in the department and school, and so on and so forth, and my general plan and managerial style. (Flexible and fairly laid back, respectively.) We determine she is also an MPR listener by choice, so yay.

I take her down to introduce her to the office staff, and so we can collect the mail so she can get to work sorting it.

I go off and work on moving my desk into the back room, and now have it set up almost the way I think I'll like. (There's some more fiddling to be done, but I have a small professional shrine on the top of one of our old small card catalog boxes that is making me *very* happy. Photos at some point.)

Wander down to lunch. End up in about 6 conversations with people, including my titular boss. Get snagged from lounge to go meet one of my new advisees. (On looking at the list, I blinked, and had a "I have no idea where about 4 of these names come from." response - the one I met today is one of those, and is Afghani, and I quite like her and her father (who I also met) so far.)

Wandered back to the lounge to attempt to finish lunch, and determined that I wasn't going to get to finish eating if I stayed there, so came back upstairs with my strawberries.

Finished the immediate shelf-shifting project (so we are ready to go tomorrow when we have more help again: I am now confident that a) it is going to look damn gorgeous when done and b) that we will actually finish tomorrow.) In between which I have returned a phone call (purchase order # for our magazine renewals), gotten some paperwork (which I will fight with tomorrow, thanks.)

In a bit, going to go home via hardware store where I will acquire pliers (for better bending shelving brackets without destroying my knuckles.) and plastic things to go on keys for identification. And sometime this week, I need to do a trip to Staples or Office Max or something similar.
