I spent the day with my new minion and one of our rising sophomores moving many many many books. (We have about 11,000 books in the collection. We're not touching the reference or the fiction yet, but we're moving all the non-fiction, which means we'll be handling around 8,000 volumes. Yeah. Ow.)
On the other hand, my brilliant plan for library redesign was, in fact, brillant. It looks so incredibly cool it is not even remotely funny. EVerything fits the way I thought it would, and it catches the light in lovely and beautiful ways, and it's warm and inviting but also accessible.
(Part of why we're touching every single book in the non-fiction section is that we're spreading things out a bit better, so that all of the shelving has consistent placement. It looks *really* neat and trim now, though I need to check tomorrow that we're going to have enough shelving for everything as things are going. (Which means recounting empty shelves and what I know we need to fill. I suspect we may be spending part of Monday condensing slightly, which is not too painful.)
Anyway, it looks very cool. And I'm told the remains of the circ desk will, in fact, be gone on Friday. And we have newer machines in one of our labs, and new laptops this year, too, so *very* shiny.
On the third hand. Erm. Ow. Lots.
