So, now seems like a good time to think about plans and potential travel plans.
Thanksgiving
I have an invite to my sister-in-law's family in Framingham if I want it. I am sort of at the "I am not sure I want to do that drive in November to see people I largely don't know, for a holiday that has never been a big deal in my family of origin, as much as my nieces are awesome." point at the moment.
(Plus, the idea of four days off at home is not exactly unappealing. Especially given how far I am currently behind with Nano from this weekend, and damnit, have story to make happen.)
On the other hand, if someone came up with an awesome idea, I do have the time off.
December
I have the 26th off and January 2nd. My sister is looking at potentially being on the East Coast sometime between those two dates, and coming up to New Haven or Boston.
(I need to plan about 5 days to reimage computers and do other seasonal maintenance over break, so exactly how much time I can take off is limited. Plus, people have their own holiday plans, so it may not be the best time to see other people in Boston.)
January
Maybe Boston trip? Maybe not, if weather and timing does not work.
February, probably
Trip to Boston to see a production of Medea that promises to be awesome, and that several friends also want to see.
[The one thing I can't miss locally is February 21st, which is a Tuesday anyway. There may also be a need for some computer imaging work over break, which is that week.]
March
Long trip to Minnesota (from the 10th to the 19th, probably) so I can go to both a professional conference and Paganicon, and see people on the other days.
I'm also talking about a potential trip to NYC sometime in the spring, though working out the scheduling has complications. (I basically need to allow a full day for travel on either end, and working it around the Minnesota trip has challenges.)
Sometime in April/May?
Trip to Montreal, to help with hotel stuff for Farthing Party.
General
I would also like to see my nieces sometime sooner than later, and they are in New Haven. Not quite sure how the timing there works, (For that, I might want to take the train, and that means I really need a four day weekend. It's about $60 each way if I avoid the Acela, which doesn't actually save *that* much time anyway, and if I leave Portland at 8am, I can be in New Haven by 1:30. It's about 5.5/6 hour drive and about $80 in gas if I drive it at current prices.)

Date: 2011-11-07 03:55 pm (UTC)I'll be busy the Wednesday/Thursday of that week (the professional conference) and Friday afternoon->Sunday (Paganicon).
But other than that, it's pretty open. (I do want to see my Feldenkrais teacher for a lesson, which would probably be Tuesday, but the timing is likely to be fairly flexible.)

Date: 2011-11-07 05:32 pm (UTC)(Because, seriously. You are in the category of "If I have to drive south, see you, and turn around and drive north again, I will do that." Not that I expect to need to: other than those 10 days, I can do a weekend without problem, and a long weekend/vacation days most likely with a little warning unless something very weird is happening.)
I do want to come visit you at some point, but I need savings to make that happen, so not-this-spring is good anyway.

Date: 2011-11-07 08:30 pm (UTC)(Mostly, laying it out like this a) helps me figure out where I need to keep vacation time fluid, and b) helps me budget.
(Trip to Boston is relatively cheap in the grand scheme of things, but I figure 60ish for gas at current prices, plus whatever food and other activities. (and my desire to pick up stuff I can't get locally while in transit: yesterday included stops at Cardullo's, Penzey's and Trader Joe's).
