I spent most of the weekend at Minicon, where I went to three programming items, got to chat with various and sundry people (but not as many as I would have liked), and spent a lot of time with Scott and Elise (never bad things.)

However, I was *dreadfully* low on energy all weekend (in the "Let me go home and go to bed at 6pm " sort of way.) And my Monday is not going to help.

It's 6am. In a minute, I'm going to stand up and start decocting my tea.
At 6:45, I leave for work.
I work from 7 until 3:30, when I drive to the other campus for a meeting.
4-5:15ish: Meeting, which I duck out of a tiny bit early to go to
5:45 herbalist appointment, because *something* in my current blend is not quite right.
6:30 Herb class: I get to come home at 7:30 or so, have something for dinner, have a bath, and fall over.

I'm a little nervous about making it that far, actually, given my record this weekend. And then on Tuesday, we have the final candidate (at least last I heard!) in, so they can make eventual job decisions. Also, my former boss might be stopping by to say hi, which would be very nice.
One of the things I acquired at Minicon (well, one of two, the other of which is a present) was a pendant - it's made from variscite, which is a stone I wasn't previously familiar with. Did my research this morning, and I'm not surprised I found it intriguing.

It's a phosphate mineral (relatively rare: occurs in Utah, Germany, Australia, and Brazil) that looks a bit like the greener forms of turquoise. It's often seen with veins of crandalite

Folk and crystal lore from various source says:
- it helps balance the central nervous system
- eases worry, anxiety, stress, etc.
- all about encouragement.
- self-reliance, success, and brings abundance.
- soothing, calming, and healing for both body and mind.
- truthfulness and authenticity.
- perception and spiritual awareness.

Well, okay, then. I can see why I picked it up. (Also, it's very pretty: greenish-turquoise with pale sandy-goldish-yellow veining, which is probably crandalite.)

(I'd argue that the last two are possible offshoots of the 'calming' and 'encouraging' stuff, personally. I should also note that while I'm intrigued by stone meanings, I don't take them as the last word or anything. Bought this 'cause it's pretty, more than anything, and it wanted to come home with me.)

Jumping on the bandwagon, since this seems a useful kind of post to have around here: an introduction to things you may or may not care about me. I'm particularly interested in meeting new folks on Dreamwidth, and to making different patterns of connections than I might currently have (since, as much as those are great, this is new space!

From the more obvious to the sometimes less obvious....

First, conciseness is not one of my virtues )
