I almost always check a bag, too--contact lens solution is sold in 3.5 oz. bottles, thanks, capitalism!--invisible hand my visible ass--anyway, but the thing is, since the Leatherman is by default in my purse, it's too late to put it in the checked bag by the time I go through security. If things were in the opposite order, that would work fine, but since they're not, it's a list item.
