I make a point when travelling to eat things I can't easily get at home. (And since I live in a small town, this is remarkably easy: I have not yet managed Indian on this trip, but I did get excellent Chinese, and really excellent diner already.)
On water bottles: my usual refillable is a thermos, which they have to swab if you try and take it through security, but I also have a foldable refillable that I take when travelling. (It is very handy, and takes up almost no space when packing.)
