Thank you very much for this. Mostly it's made me pretty sure I'm not making an enormous mistake considering this. (Now if I can get my company to pay for it, I won't have any concerns. XD)

I had actually planned on getting into rare books and preservation but the way you talk about your job has made me think about being a school librarian, which I hadn't thought about since I was actually in high school. This will require more thinking once, you know, I actually get into a school.
