My hopes for Dreamwidth
Are many - but I especially hope it'll be a place to talk music and writing and other creative and thoughtful things about the world and my place in it. My LiveJournal has been locked except for occasional posts - I'm hoping to have many more public posts here.

Things of beauty and wonder in my life
- Being a librarian at an independent high school in the Twin Cities. I adore helping people find information that matters to them, and watching the light in their eyes go on when that happens.

- Living in Minnesota, winters and all. (I fell in love with the state on a visit in 1998, and moved here in 1999. I have yet to regret it.)

- Being priestess of a small coven in a structured religious witchcraft tradition.

- Books. Many books. All kinds of books. I read anything that sits still long enough, but my preferences run to character-driven science fiction and fantasy, narrative non-fiction, microhistories, and mysteries (especially historical mysteries.) Favorite authors include Pamela Dean, Laurie King, Charles de Lint, and Neil Gaiman.

- Music. I have a complex relationship with my harp (as pictured in my default icon), but I'm working on improving that. Slowly. (In the past, I've also played bassoon, a bit of piano, and done a fair bit of singing.) I write music at times, some of which I'm happier with than other bits.

- Finding information that helps people do things that matter to them - this is the core of why I'm a librarian, and delighted to have a job where my passions are actually useful. (Also, the bizarre archives of trivia my brain collects.)

- Spinning yarn (and occasionally knitting) when I have time.

- My ever-improving cooking and baking skills. (This semester, lots of cookies)

Projects I'm currently involved with
(Besides the coven, which takes a lot of my time.)

- I've been on the board of Twin Cities Pagan Pride Day since late 2006.

- I'm the hotel chair for the Fourth Street Fantasy Convention in 2009.

- Alternity: a alternate universe Harry Potter role-playing game/shared story.
